Some advice for the home framer

Consider the job to be framed.

Price should not be the first and only consideration.

Establish links with the local framer who is willing to support your hobby with quality mouldings and matboard. This is not necessarily a discount option but will allow you a wide range of quality options which will improve your ability to achieve a good result.

Be prepared to do the quality of work that you would expect from your framer.

Hanging pictures — always avoid using standard brass wire without a steel core. The pressure at the hook will over time lead to strands breaking one by one and eventually letting the picture fall. Other hanging options are fixed mirror hangers or picture rail hooks.

Quality wire and fittings are available and should always be used.

Fixed hanging options are available.

Consultation with your local framer will help you decide on the correct choice for your application.
